Summer Camp classes are offered daily July 15-19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free to middle school young adults ages 11 to 14 years old. Sign up for individual activities or the whole week. Add all 5 classes to your cart to sign up for the whole week. Classes are held in the Northwest Passage Gallery classroom. All supplies are provided. Bring a bag lunch.

Day 1: Splash of Creativity: Watercolor with a Spray Bottle
"Splash of Creativity" introduces students to the dynamic world of spray bottle watercolor techniques. Through hands-on experimentation, students explore various spraying methods to create abstract patterns and textures on paper or canvas. With guidance, students learn to control intensity and direction, unlocking a world of expressive possibilities. This engaging class fosters creativity, curiosity, and self-expression, as students dive into the vibrant world of spray bottle artistry.

Day 2: Harmonies of Creativity
Harmonies of Creativity: Music-Inspired ArtOverview: "Harmonies of Creativity" is an inspiring journey where music and art converge. Students explore the profound connection between sound and imagery, listening to curated music selections and visualizing vibrant scenes and emotions. Through sketching and creating artworks, students translate these visualizations into captivating pieces, fostering creativity and self-expression. This transformative class encourages students to embrace their unique artistic voices and celebrate the harmonies between music and visual art.

Day 3: Cardboard Fun
The morning will be spent making bead mosaics on a cardboard base. Students will draw an image, color it, and then cover it with round beads.
In the afternoon class, students will create 3D sculptures made from the letters of their names and various shapes cut from cardboard, painted, and assembled on a cardboard base.

Day 4: Photography
In this class, kids will learn fundamentals as well as more advanced aspects of photography, whether using a digital or analog camera, or a phone.
The interactive class will teach kids to “see” through the lens of the camera to create an image they have in their minds. The class will start with fundamentals and then move on to subjects including choosing what to shoot; focus; focal lengths; lens openings; shutter speeds; depth of field; cropping through the lens; light, shadows, and lighting; portraits; group shots; ISO/speed settings; sports and wildlife photos; capturing the best photos of people at an event; low-light photography, and much more.
Interactive components will challenge class members to take photos indoors and outdoors using several assigned tasks, with critique from the instructor and class. Kids must take notes and they will be informally tested on their knowledge at the end of the class.
This class is intended to move kids from a beginner to an intermediate photographer and instill a new appreciation for photography.
STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN CAMERA OR PHONE WITH A CAMERA.

After a discussion and demonstration of a variety of textures used in painting, students will create images using a variety of textures including paint, sand, paper, and modeling paste.
